Junior High Ministry

Junior High Ministry is that transitional time between childhood and adolescence when students become thoughtful yet have bodies that need to move, especially after sitting in desks all day. In my ministry I often had youth from several different schools also, so one of the few times they saw each other was in our short hour and a half class. Therefore, the social aspect of this session was critical. If you can hold a drop in time for socializing, that is a real advantage.

Students are also changing from being told their faith and wanting to explore their faith and learn the ropes of living a faith filled life. In other words, active faith.

Therefore, I focused on ways that they could socialize yet do activities that were faith based and thought provoking. Service was also a major component. Experiencing their faith through doing makes a bigger impact on Junior High students than listening to someone talk about it at length.

The program components in the links here give some examples of active learning for junior high.
