Christmas plays alternate between Dicken's traditional "A Christmas Carole" and a more modernized version of the nativity story where Mary and Joseph are a homeless couple adapted to the city where it is performed in.
Christmas Carole is a lot of fun, though a lot of work, and includes the necessary and adorable cratchit children and other children in the cast. This really adds to the sense of youth ministry being part of the larger community of the church, and adds the family component to the ministry.
There is also a lot of singing in this play, which adds to the Christmas Spirit, and there is the opportunity to have the annual Christmas Cookie Bake-off for the refreshments.
Selected members of the cast judge the best cookies and prizes are given. This adds to the festive atmosphere, along with mulled cider, hot chocolate and other seasonal goodies.
